Framework
Efficient
Efficient is the framework MHSB Solutions uses to review a law firm's operating model in four stages: standardize, automate, measure, govern. It began as efficient.esq and now lives here, with the ABA Formal Opinion 512 material on the Legal AI Compliance Tracker.
The four stages
Standardize: the firm's intake, matter, and communication steps are written down as one process with named owners. Automate: the steps that repeat without judgment are configured in the firm's platform (Clio, MyCase, Lawmatics, or another system). Measure: the configured workflow records the counts and dates needed to see where matters stall. Govern: the firm's use of AI tools is reviewed against the duties in ABA Formal Opinion 512 (competence, confidentiality, communication, supervision, and fees), with a written policy and a review cadence.
Where the material lives
The ABA 512 self-assessment remains available at efficient.esq/aba-512 until it is ported. The guide to what Opinion 512 requires is maintained on the Legal AI Compliance Tracker at legalaicompliance.help/aba-formal-opinion-512, and the adoptable law-firm AI policy template at legalaicompliance.help/law-firm-ai-policy-template. Both are published as information, not legal advice; applying the opinion to a particular firm's facts is a matter for the firm and its counsel.
The review
An AI operating-model review is a scoped engagement: a discovery session, a documented scope, a review of the firm's current policy and tool use against the four stages, written findings with next steps, and a stated support window. It is delivered by MHSB Solutions, a legal technology consultancy, not a law firm.
